Unveiling Authenticity: Embracing Your True Self in a World of Social Media Standards

As human beings we all crave one thing, to fit in, to matter, and to feel important. Some of us shape ourselves day in and day out to mimic that of what is said to make you fit in.

We replace our uniqueness and ideals with those of others so that we can feel that sense of belonging in this world. This sense of fitting and belonging has grown expeditiously as the world of social media has grown. We now have these standards of what “is cool”, “is beautiful”, “is in” at the tip of our fingers.

With platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter shaping our perceptions of reality, we’re bombarded with curated images of what “success” looks like, what “beauty” entails, and what it means to be “cool.” We’re constantly fed a diet of unattainable standards, leaving us scrambling to keep up with ever-changing trends and societal expectations.

Sooner or later after swapping all of what makes us unique, we are left with a shell of who we used to be. We trade in our beautiful quirks for a shot at validation and the hope that we will blend in and finally belong in the world.

This truth is hard for all of us to grasp, because it is so scary to take that leap and showcase to the world who you really are. We are afraid that we will not be accepted in this world of seemingly perfect people.

But the truth is, what is more important to the world right now is for people to see the real sides to life. We as a society are craving something new, something authentic. We NEED authenticity and we need change.

Showcasing who you really are, and not hiding behind a shell of what you think is perfect is what is truly going to change your world and the world in general for the better.

Taking this on not only in your daily life, but on social media as well. True success in the world and on social media in these next few years is not going to come to those who are perfect, it will come to those who are truly and unequivocally themselves.

So whether you are an individual, a brand, or a company and you are listening to these words right now, I want you to take this step with me. Take the risk of standing out, the risk of being misunderstood, and show the world who you really are.

We are not meant to be the same, we are meant to be ourselves. And if you want to see success in the quality of your life, your work, social media, etc. you have to strip yourself back from all those ideals and give the world a shot at seeing you for who you really are.
